| In the modern era the desk computer has been replaced with the LAPTOP due to its portability, compactness and mobility. You can take it aboard an aircraft, on a train or elsewhere and keep working etc. The only downside is that its battery requires to be re-charged. Having been used for a couple of hours, the battery gets discharged and you have to re-charge it for further exploitation. Laptop producers have not invented a laptop yet that can run for a long time. Nevertheless, several crutial steps have been undertaken to increase battery's life. There are 3 main types of laptop batteries distinguished.
The first laptop batteries to be re-charged were Nickel Cadmium (NiCd). They did not cost much and generated lots of power. Yet, NiCd were heavy and are no longer used now.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) laptop batteries are unsuitable for the new generation of laptops. They have a higher output if compared with NiCd batteries. More than that, they are considered to be safer and cheaper. The only downside is that they possess the so-called memory effect. If not discharged entirely, the battery will remember it and will put out less energy than it can do.
Lithium Ion (LiON) laptop batteries are usually recommended to install in laptops of the new generation. They are lighter comparing to NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and do not produce any memory effect. Still, LiON batteries are highly priced.
Actually the more expensive a battery is, the longer your laptop will work. Thus, it largely depends upon purposes you use your laptop for. Those who travel worldwide a lot, need an extended power source.
If it is time to replace your laptop battery, make certain it is compatible with a laptop model, in spite of the fact that lots of laptop batteries nowadays are compatible with all makes. Then consider 2 major ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage should be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When purchasing a laptop battery, always seek the one with the biggest Milliamps figure.
An external laptop battery is connected to a laptop via an AC adaptor plug consisting of an adaptor, a cord plus thirteen other connectors.
When buying an AC adaptor, assure that it will suit the current output and voltage. These data are generally placed on labels of a laptop and on the original adaptor. The character 'V' means voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure should be within 10% of your original adapter voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower comparing to the original current output.
Another thing to keep in mind is that form of a battery and the tip dimensions of an AC adaptor should be identical to the original ones.
